Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend  Next Entry
Travel now fixed: I'll be back in the UK again May 13-18. Other than [info]sashagoblin's birthday on the Friday, my plans are pretty empty (Bifest is on the Saturday, which I am considering). As always, suggestions gratefully received.

I'll then be spending 2 days in Dublin, largely because the flights ended up cheaper that way.

In other news, it's perhaps a little unfair that the police are being called murderers for shoving Ian Tomlinson around just before he died - but in the context of police being apparently pretty rough with protesters, who can be surprised that somebody ends up seriously hurt.

Meanwhile there's a big protest in Moldova, which is some confusing overlay of youth/age, pro/anti-Romania, and internationalist/nationalist, plus poverty, anger at a fair(ish) election won by an obnoxious government, and a decent dollop of geopolitics. In Georgia, the opposition are about to try and bring down the government, with a decent chance of success. And in France, universities are two months into a strike (longest since '68), but nobody seems to have noticed. Interesting times.

I'll be at Sasha's thing, and at Bifest, but it would be nice to have you to myself for a bit - dinner on Sunday perhaps?

*prod* Do you have any more idea what your plans are, and whether I might be able to inveigle you over for dinner at some point? Whilst I suggested Sunday, the Wednesday and Thursday are also good if they suit you better.

I'm really sorry, but I don't think I'm going to be able to fit that in. I only have a few days, and there are far too many close friends I haven't seen in years.

Of course that's fine. It would still be very good to see you if you do have any gaps. I've got loads of untaken holiday if you'd like to meet up in the day at any point, and am also happy to host a dinner gathering where you invite other people, but if neither of those work, then I'll just have to get myself out to Berlin sometime soon.

"if you'd like to meet up in the day at any point"

actually, Thursday afternoon would be possible, and so would Sunday early-ish (but not _too_ early...)

Hello. Sorry for taking an age to reply to this - hectic life is hectic. I'll come to the pub on Thursday after work, but as it sounds as though I'll get to see you the next couple of days as well I won't take the afternoon off. How early is early-ish on Sunday? [info]palmer1984 is coming over for lunch, I guess around 1.30ish, and you'd be very welcome to join us for that. If that's too late and you'd like to come over earlier then that would also be fine, although I'll be in and out of the kitchen. I wouldn't be able to come out and meet you though, because of aforementioned kitchen duties.

Thanks! I'll be in Cambridge on Wednesday 13, so a corner of floor that evening would be v. useful.

for shoving Ian Tomlinson around

And hitting him with batons according to eyewitness accounts. And I think the video shows him being hit once by a baton (I haven't watched it due to rubbish internet at my house).

There are some eyewitness accounts here that suggest it might have been a little more than just a shoving around. (Somewhat strangely, one of the eyewitnesses supervised me when I was at Cambridge.)

It would be great to see you if you come to Bifest!
