Lazyweb: printing
I don't own a printer, nor do I want to. On the rare occasions when I need something on paper, I pop into a net cafe, or cajole a friend into printing it for me. This gets a bit pricy/cheeky when it involves more than a few pages. Also, it takes far too much time and faff.

Somewhere, there must exist a company that will accept documents by email, print them, and post me the results. But I've not been able to find any. The print shops I can find are geared either towards making glossy full-colour brochures, or to printing lots of copies of the same document.

Does this kind of print-and-post service exist? Where?

Small secretarial bureaux will do this kind of work: my first proper CV and application letters were typed up and printed out professionally this way.

Look for one-person businesses doing jobbing work... If they still exist. The one I used in Leicester, all those years ago, has long since retired.

That's a good question - I'd be curious to know too as I'm in a similar situation. I know that places such as Boots do such a service for images (i.e., it's intended for people who want photos from their cameras), but I don't know of anything for simply printing out a document.

Best place to look imo would be any universities near you. Quite a few bright students will offer proofreading services - I used to do a bit of it myself when I was at uni. As the uni printing prices are often extortionate, I got myself a good quality printer and offered to print the essays for students after I'd done my proofreading - for an additional cost, but which still undercut the uni.

There may well be something similar in your area - classified ads or noticeboard posts may well be a good idea.

I had a similar query a month before you. Try NetGram or Postful. Hopefully, they will operate in the UK.

P.S. I'm friending you. I found you through [info]shalizi_nb.

Nice to meet you, and thanks for the recommendations.

And glad to find another fan of Cosma; I know they exist, there just never seem to be many around my corner of the internet.

Well, his blog is a "Top 50 science blog", so we're definitely not alone.
Did you find the syndication through the link on his notebooks?

I don't remember, but that sounds likely.
